San Francisco is beautiful. The weather is perfect (at least for me, my teammate complains about how cold it is). The buildings and infrastructures are breath taking, the view from my apartment is indescribable.

I’m starting to get a feeling of homesickness. I had been away from my family and my boyfriend for almost a month now and I’m getting that feeling of emptiness whenever I’m home. Good thing I have Macoy to keep me company and keep me busy at night. It lessens the possibility of me missing them so much. It keeps me busy that I have no time to entertain such loneliness.

And speaking of Macoy, being a Windows XP user ever since I could remember, I keep on looking for functionalities that I had been accustomed to using:

  • I don’t know how to select a text line (like on a text editor, a text box or the address box in firefox). I found this site and it really helped (text shortcuts and navigators)
  • I don’t know how to cut and paste files (ctrl+x and ctrl+c in Windows) into different folders. It turned out that you drag and drop files in Mac instead.
  • I had a hard time figuring out how to resize pictures in batches. There is no Picasa version available for Mac yet. Finally, after 3 days of wondering and researching and installing different 3rd party softwares, I learned that iPhoto could do it. Just select the files you want to resize, go to the menu on top and select File > Export. Then select JPG as the file type and adjust the quality of the picture. That’s a simple one. Glad I found it because I was finally able to upload some pics in multiply.
  • I brought USB slot device at the Apple store thinking that there was none built in on the unit, there were two!
  • I couldn’t figure out what to do with the power cord that came in the box. At first I thought that it was the charger cord. It wasn’t that. There was a super cute charger instead. Until now, I don’t know what to do with that cord.
  • I’m seeing fingerprints on my monitor and now I have to figure out if I could buy something to wipe it off properly. (vain, huh?)
  • I’m still having a hard time getting used to the “Sleep” functionality. So you don’t turn off the notebook unless you absolutely have to? Really?
  • I still couldn’t use the calendar. I don’t know how to add appointment.

Yeah, Macoy had been keeping me busy lately. I’m loving it. This system (OS X) is amazing.
